Jane's story

Meet Jane, Clinical Service Manager and Counsellor with Mind Matters Talking Therapies

“The team’s positivity makes a huge difference – without them, my job would be much harder.”

What’s your role at SABP?

I have a dual role within the Mind Matters service: I’m both a Clinical Service Manager and a practising Counsellor.

As Clinical Service Manager, I oversee the day-to-day running of the service, making sure we have the right number of therapists across different areas of Surrey. I also work closely with other local talking therapy providers to keep our partnerships strong.

In my counselling role, I deliver therapy, including couples therapy for depression, which is a relatively new addition to our offer. I’m also trained in interpersonal psychotherapy, working with people who access support through their GP. I regularly liaise with primary and secondary care teams to ensure that referrals are appropriate and well-coordinated.

I also cover duty shifts, where I take calls and assess risk for people who may be in crisis.

One achievement I’m especially proud of is Mind Matters receiving the CARE Excellence 5-year accreditation. It’s a real mark of quality and shows the dedication of our whole team to providing high standards of care.

Describe a typical day

There’s no such thing as a typical day! My role is incredibly varied. I might be delivering therapy, supporting colleagues, completing appraisals or preparing reports for senior leaders.

I’m often involved in problem-solving – helping to resolve challenges within the service, working with different teams, or managing urgent cases. I also contribute to outreach and awareness work to help more people understand what we do.

Flexibility is definitely essential in this role.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love how busy it is – there’s always something going on. I’m lucky to work with such a brilliant team. My colleagues at Mind Matters are optimistic, supportive and deeply committed to helping others. Their energy and attitude make all the difference.
