Description
The course aims to give appropriate basic training on medication to support staff and will be appropriate to Care staff/Support workers working in registered care homes, day services and short break services who are required to administer medication to service users. Support staff working in community or on in-patient units who wish to increase their medication awareness. New staff should preferably have 3-6 months experience in the service before applying.
Course Objectives
- To provide the Support Worker with the knowledge and practical skills to safely select, prepare and administer medicines.
- To give a basic knowledge of how medicines are used and how to recognise and deal with problems.
- To ensure awareness of medication policies including storage, administration and record keeping.
