Our Trust offers a range of apprenticeship programmes to help our nurses and healthcare support workers (HCSW) progress their career with us.
An apprenticeship combines practical on the job training with study. Apprentices gain technical knowledge, practical experience and wider skills need for their immediate job and future career, all while being paid.
The Nursing Pathway in the table below shows how healthcare support workers and nurses can progress their careers through apprenticeships. You can join the Trust at any pay band and move up the Nursing Pathway.

Below are examples of the apprenticeships that are available to help staff progress. Depending on your qualifications and experience, you may be able to start at the higher level apprenticeships.
Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship
Who is it for?
If you are new to working in care you may find this apprenticeship helpful. It is aimed at those working in services supporting registered practitioners delivering mental health and other healthcare services to people. This apprenticeship can also give employees recognition of their current skills. This qualification supports career progression.
Entry Criteria:
- You must be employed by our Trust and working in one of the teams providing care to people who use you our services.
- have completed the Care Certificate delivered by our Trust or a previous employer.
- If you do not have the Care Certificate, we can offer you the opportunity to take this once you have secured a healthcare support Worker role.
- Your employment contract with us must last for the duration of the apprenticeship programme
- You have lived in the UK for three years prior to enrolling to qualify for the Apprenticeship Levy Funding.
Our Training Provider: We have partnered with Dynamic Training to deliver this apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship Duration: 12 months plus End Point Assessment
Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship
Who is it for?
Senior Healthcare Support Workers help registered practitioners deliver healthcare services to people. They carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare as well as therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner.
Entry Criteria:
- You must be employed by our Trust and working in one of the teams providing care to people who use you our services.
- have completed the Care Certificate delivered by our Trust or a previous employer.
- If you do not have the Care Certificate, we can offer you the opportunity to take this once you have secured a healthcare support Worker role.
- Your employment contract with us must last for the duration of the apprenticeship programme
- You have lived in the UK for three years prior to enrolling to qualify for the Apprenticeship Levy Funding.
To enrol onto this apprenticeship, you must be working in a care setting in a healthcare support worker role (either band 2 or band 3). This qualification supports career progression.
Our Training Provider: We have partnered with Dynamic Training to deliver this apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship Duration: 24 months plus End Point Assessment
Level 5 Nursing Associate Apprenticeship
Who is it for?
Registered Nursing Associate Apprenticeships are available for existing healthcare support workers at our Trust. These apprenticeships are a way of ‘growing our own’ staff and offer a great route to developing a career in nursing.
As a Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA), you will be paid on a band 3 salary and upon successful completion of your course and End Point Assessment, you will receive your registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). If then successfully appointed to a registered nursing associate post, you will be paid on a band 4 salary.
Trainees will attend the University of West London one day a week and experience practice in a variety of clinical settings across several local health care providers. Successful trainees will gain a Foundation Science Degree as a Nursing Associate.

- Have completed the Care Certificate delivered by our Trust or a previous employer.
- Have GCSE/O-Level English and maths at Grade C/4 and above, or have passed Level 2 English and maths functional skills.
- Your employment contract with us must last for the duration of the apprenticeship programme
- You have lived in the UK for three years prior to enrolling to qualify for the Apprenticeship Levy Funding.
Our Training Provider: We have partnered with the University of West London to deliver this apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship Duration: 24 months including End Point Assessment
Level 6 Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (Top Up to Registered Nurse)
Who is it for?
We offer a 24 month top up programme for NMC registered nursing associates to become a registered mental health/leaning disability nurse to our employees.
Entry Requirements:
- Be employed by our Trust and be working as an NMC registered nursing associate.
- Your employment contract with us must last for the duration of the apprenticeship programme
- You have lived in the UK for three years prior to enrolling to qualify for the Apprenticeship Levy Funding.
Our Training Provider: We have partnered with the University of West London and The Open University to deliver this apprenticeship.

Level 7 Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship
Who is it for?
If you are a registered nurse already at our Trust, you may be interested in training to become an advanced clinical practitioner. Advanced clinical practitioners are healthcare practitioners who are educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent and have developed the skills and knowledge to allow them to take on expanded roles and scope of practice caring for patients.
This training is offered both as an apprenticeship and a ‘standard’ university course which leads to an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice to our nursing staff at band 6 and above.
Advanced Clinical Practice is the practice that involves autonomy and decision-making and is carried out by highly experienced registered health practitioners. It is underpinned by Health Education England’s four pillars:
- Clinical practice,
- Leadership and management
- Education
- Research
Entry Requirements:
- Be employed by our Trust and be working as a band 6 or above registered nurse.
- Your employment contract with us must last for the duration of the apprenticeship programme
- You have lived in the UK for three years prior to enrolling to qualify for the Apprenticeship Levy Funding
Our Training Provider: We have partnered with St George’s Medical School, University of London to deliver this apprenticeship.
